Old McDonald Farm, Brentwood

Old McDonald Farm is somewhere we seem to dive past regularly. We’d always say how good it looks and how we must go! It took us a while but we finally decided to spend an afternoon visiting, and what a lovely afternoon it was. If you drive along the M25 (I think! I’m not great with directions!) then you’ll definitely see it. It’s bright, colourful and very inviting. At a glance, it looks huge – but on second thoughts it wasn’t as big as I’d first imaged. I preferred it this way – it was easy to walk around all parts of the farm and not feel as though you’ve missed something important. Sometimes I think farms can be a little too spread out – this was nice and compact, but not so much so that you felt on top of one another. Perfect!

Something I always forget when visiting farms is the fact there are animals. It’s easy to get caught up in the rides and play areas, without even taking a second glance at the animals. However, we did spot some lovely little pigs along ‘pig pier’, some llamas and chinchillas along with several other animals dotted around the park. The one ride that caught Daisy’s eye was the Crazy Barn Ride (the big red one you can see in my photos below) – she insisted she absolutely had to go on this one, right away. There are also several little train rides, a merry-go-round, a dog rollercoaster and lots of other little rides and activities along with two soft play areas.

It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re local to the area – or even if you’re not local – as there’s plenty to do. It had a bit of a retro feel to it, which we enjoyed. It wasn’t as built up as a lot of other farms we’ve been too. It felt a lot more traditional and ‘farm-like’. The only downfall is that it isn’t closer to us. It’s a 45 minute drive from where we are in Hertfordshire, which is a shame as I would definitely say it’s one of the best farms I’ve been to! If Daisy had been playing ball then I’m sure we would have stayed longer! We went with our friends over at Me, Myself and Ivy so be sure to keep an eye on Amy’s blog for her post soon! Thanks for having us Old McDonald Farm.
