The end of a dreadfully long winter | Snow photos

As I sit on my sofa covered in 3 – 4 blankets, sipping on the hottest possible cup of tea, I feel pretty darn happy that I’m not outside.  I really don’t like the cold and I really don’t like the snow. That being said, we decided to venture out into it yesterday and take Daisy sledging for the first time. It’s amazing how beautiful the everyday simplicity looks when covered in a white blanket of snow. Somewhere I go almost every week, looks completely different, it’s almost like visiting somewhere new. It’s one of the coldest I’ve ever been, but I just couldn’t stop proclaiming how beautiful our hometown looked. We have a local lake in which I spend a lot of my time working (photographing families) and seeing it in the snow, really bought it to life.

As much as I hate the snow, it’s given me a little bit of hope for spring. It’s almost as though the snow is just a dramatic end to our dreadfully long winter. As though after the snow has melted, we’ll be blessed with Spring weather and the real start of a new year. Can you tell I’m not a winter person?! I’m all about warmth and sun. I’m about feeling the heat on my back as I walk. Wearing summer clothes and having my legs out. Ice-creams, picnics, park trips, beach trips. I sometimes question why I live in a country that sees such little sun.

That being said, we did have a lovely little afternoon. We sledged down hills and when it all got a little too cold, we went straight back home and cuddled on the sofa with blankets and hot chocolate. I think that’s always the best part of snow – getting warm afterwards. So although the majority of England seems to be against this horribly cold weather (myself included), it’s definitely got to be the end  of winter. March is here and after the snow has cleared we’ll be settling into Spring life.
